Purpose
Provide a combination of theory and practical experience of the principles and methodology for establishing a comprehensive Business Continuity Management Program for your organization through a workshop approach.
Course Description
Benini Consulting has developed a four half-day workshops approach to developing business continuity management program in your organization. These workshops will walk you through the Business Continuity Management (BCM) lifecycle by highlighting an internationally recognized methodology from DRI International and The Business Continuity Institute. You will gain a solid understanding of the concepts for building a business continuity plan to protect your critical business in the event of a business interruption. These workshops are designed to assist you with building your business continuity plan through providing practical tools and techniques.
Target Audience
Your organization’s business unit management and administrative support who require the knowledge and practical application to prepare and implement a Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
Course Format
Through a combination of visual slide presentation and templates with instructions you will build your own business unit chapter for your organization’s business continuity plan. We will provide up to date noteworthy examples and experience as it relates to the theory. Professional instructors with extensive business continuity and industry experience teach the course. They hold professional designations from DRI International as Certified Business Continuity Professionals.
Your organization provides the facility and Benini Consulting will provide materials, equipment, and instructors for the following workshops:
Workshop I – Risk Assessment
Complete a risk assessment for each business unit (alternatively this risk assessment can be completed from a facility perspective with representatives from all business units):
- Identify threats and the risks to the organization
- Identify the likelihood and consequences of these threats
- Determine the level of risk
- Determine existing controls
- Assess additional controls and mitigation strategies
- Prioritized extreme and high risks
- Assign responsibility for risk mitigation and controls
Workshop II – Business Impact Analysis
Complete a business impact analysis for each business unit:
- Identify business processes for each business unit
- Identify interdependencies
- Identify maximum allowable outages (MAO)
- Determine quantitative impacts (i.e. financial losses)
- Determine qualitative impacts (e.g. operational)
- Prioritized business processes based on impacts and MAO
- Determine critical business processes for each business unit
Workshop III – Alternate Strategy Development & Resource Requirements
Develop alternate business continuity strategies for each business units’ critical business processes:
- Identify alternate strategies (e.g. manual workarounds, alternate source providers)
- Assess interdependencies (e.g. sole supplier)
- Identify alternate site(s) for work area recovery
- Identify recovery organization
- Identify business partners
Determine minimum acceptable resource requirements for recovery of critical business processes
- Identify vital records
- Identify manuals, procedures and other key documentation
Workshop IV – Validation, Draft BCP Chapters & Next Steps
Develop recovery procedures for critical business processes
- Validate alternate strategies & resource requirements
- Develop draft Business Continuity Plan Chapter for each business unit
- Determine next steps to establish to ability to recover critical business processes and implement alternate strategies
- Present final deliverable to business unit representatives
- Discuss next steps
There should be a maximum of 4-business units represented at the workshops. A manager or senior staff member should represent each business unit. These participants must be knowledgeable about the workings of the business unit and have authority to make decisions on behalf of the business unit.
Pre-reading assignments will be emailed to all participants at least 3 weeks prior to each workshop accompanied by worksheets and instructions. Participants are asked to complete all worksheets prior to next workshop. This should allow sufficient time for completion of the worksheets. These worksheets are essential to the success of each workshop outcomes and a pre-requisite to the next workshop. Therefore it is imperative participants are committed to completing all worksheets and have a representative at each workshop to present their findings. Completed worksheets must be email to Benini Consulting at least 3 days prior to each workshop. Telephone and email support is available to workshop participants. The final step will be Benini Consulting preparing, based on the information supplied through the workshops, draft business continuity planning chapters for the business units.
These workshops are best scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
